371: Star Wars Episode 1 - Phantom Menace

Image
Cue opening theme. Star Wars is life. I LOVE Star Wars and in this movie, I love Darth Mal. He is my all time favorite in Star Wars and I remember when this came out being little, my brother got the double sided lightsaber and we had another one...green I believe. We would go outside in our big yard and have fights, pretending to be jedi knights. I wish the Force was real so bad, it is awesome. Now I know that the prequel movies weren't a huge hit with fans of the original ones that released first. I don't care, I grew up during this release and watched the original ones on recorded VHS. Jar-Jar was a riot for me, quoting him all the time. Now that I am older, I can see how he can be ridiculous and kind of annoying, but I still like him. Maybe not love him anymore, but it has moved to like. There are just so many memories of watching this on VHS, in my small house that wasn't meant for a family of 4, but just going to a different world. Or worlds even. I can imagin

370: Star Trek

I know there are three movies, but I only own this one. I have seen the second, it was just okay to me. I haven't seen the third, so that is something I need to do at a later date. I personally just like this one the best, it is the start of it all and becoming a team. It wasn't until this movie came out that I found out where my mom got the phrase, "Damn it Jim" from. The original series, which again...like Starsky and Hutch, I haven't seen. *shrugs* And I am completely okay with that. If this is the only Star Trek I see in my life, it is not the end of the world. Chris Pine is hilarious and does a great job of being that cocky, but sure-fire leader. I think my favorite part in this movie is when he gets smuggled onto the Enterprise by being injected with some kind of virus and having a bad reaction to the antidote. Tori M.

Personally I like this. I have never seen the television show, it was before I was born. Yeah, it does get a little uncomfortable at times with how Ben Stiller can be, but I mainly like this movie for the car. Sweet ride. Also they do a good job of recreating the time they are in and included the original Starsky and Hutch at the end!! Although it does make me wonder if I really like this enough to keep it, I don't watch it that much and I have so many movies already. So that is definitely going to be a personal debate that I have to come to a conclusion on. Tori M.

368: Spy Next Door

Image
JACKIE!!!!! I how I love you. He pulls off the physical comedy so well, while doing his own stunts with martial arts. He is a rare find and I am glad that you has shared his talents and personality with the world. What is really good about this movie is that it is more kid friendly. When I say kid friendly, I mean no swearing, no blood, and more kid-slapstick humor. For instance there is a part when the bad guy is in the house and the mom of the house shuts the swinging kitchen door on her. It opens to reveal her lipstick smeared and she spits out teeth. Doesn't make sense, but a kid would laugh. Even though this is more tame, I still like it. I mean, come on. It is Jackie Chan. :) Tori M.

367: Spy

I am really behind now, I am almost done with the S's in real time, but at this point in blog I am pretty far back. 😅 First off, I have seen this so many times and it is still hilarious. I mean I think what adds to it is that Jason Statham is normally pretty badass and in this movie he pretty much talks the talk, but he doesn't walk the walk. He screws up, even when he keeps telling Susan she is going to screw up and in fact she saves him, gets the job done and proves everyone wrong about her being just a secretary. Really if you like hilarious, gut busting comedy, you have to watch this. It makes fun of being a spy, but at the same time brings it into such a new light. It is honestly one of my favorites. Tori M.

366: Spiderwick Chronicles

I am almost caught up! I have 8 more to write I believe and then I am where I am at in real time. Anyways, who remembers these books? They were so popular when they come out when I was in Elementary school. Everyone always checked them out at the school library and even the regular library. I would love to read these again, it has been so long ago since I have that I don't really remember much. I think it is kind of ridiculous how much they just talk over poor Jared and just don't listen to him. I guess I understand in a way. Someone who is known for causing trouble and lying...but you should still hear them out when they are that young. Even blaming him for stuff when he was right there when it happened. Things that he couldn't have done. It bugged me a bit. In the end, they do wind up being better at communication and not jumping to conclusions. It just takes the realm of the Fae to be made aware to bring them closer as a family and solve their problems. With this

364: Spider-man 2

Yep. You had to have seen this coming, what with the first one. Sequel is not as good as the first in my opinion, but there are some aspects that I do like. The fact that his life is now affecting his powers and there is a strain in his relationship with Harry, his normal life is smashing heads with his superhero one. Trying to be an adult, have a job, be there for his girlfriend, and not to mention the big one of them all...college. I like seeing Peter kind of try and figure out his life, what is important and try and prioritize it. Does he really want to be Spider-man? Does he want to go back to the way his life was, except now he isn't bullied? That is a lot of responsibility and he kind of loses sight of why he really began to help people, before slowly coming back around. Then of course there is the issue with everyone always wanting to pick on Spider-man. Harry being a big one and then finding out that his best friend has been lying to him. Mary Jane even finding out f

I know, I know. Everyone is divided on the movies with Toby, but you know what? I grew up on it and I loved it. I remember seeing it in theaters and how everyone wanted to get the web blaster on the front of the cereal boxes or at the toy store. I'm not saying I don't like the new Spider-man, the one in Avengers. I didn't really like the other ones with Andrew Garfield, but I did like him in it...I know, I'm weird right? Fans of the comics and movies are probably reading this and shaking their heads right now. It's okay, I am used to it. So even though I do love this movie, I kind of don't like Mary Jane all that much. I love the concept of him being altered where the webs shoot from out of him, rather than web shooters like how it is supposed to be. Which is something that people really didn't like about this movie. I'm the minority I am sure. I will always love this movie and never let others deter me from from doing so. :) Tori M.

362: Spaceballs

Image
"May the Schwartz be with you." When you have a lot of space movies, or even just a lot of one thing at one specific time, there is always someone who can put it all together and make it hilarious. Even though this movie did heavily lean on Star Wars, it did contain hits at Star Trek, Alien, and Planet of the Apes. Yet another classic comedy that I grew up on. There are honestly so many quotes in this movie, the entire script could be on this post. If you haven't seen this, you should, you will laugh your butt off. One of the biggest quotes that recurs in my life is when they pop in the Spaceballs the movie in the movie, to try and find out where Lonestar and the Princess are. "When will then be now?" "Soon." Tori M.

361: Sorcerer's Apprentice

Image
In case you haven't figured out by now...I like fantasy movies. A movie that ties in the Mickey Mouse Sorcerer's Apprentice from Fantasia and a new spin on Merlin. The one thing in the world that I wish was real, was magic. How they fused magic and physics together in this movie, is honestly pretty well done. I'm sure everyone would love to go to Hogwarts and I am right there with them, but I also wouldn't mind being the apprentice to Nicholas Cage as a great sorcerer. If I had to think what my favorite part in the movie is, it is probably the least magical of them all. It is the part with the Tesla Coil, the music playing and the cage they are in. That would be cool to witness it like that with a musical flare. I find science fascinating, so of course that would by my favorite scene. Ha, ha. Tori M.

360: Somewhere In Time

Image
I'm going to be honest, I didn't like this movie. This is one of my mom's favorite's and I just didn't like it. I of course was told that the main guy is the guy who played the original Superman and I didn't like the original Superman movies either. I am NOT a Superman fan...well Justice League is okay. Anyways, the reason why I didn't like it is that he just seems creepy. Seeing a picture of someone in the past and practically stalking her, going back in time and creepily following her and seeking her out...I know it is supposed to be romantic because years later when she is old she finds him and tells him to come back to her. I just can't get over his character. If it were played by someone else I might not be bothered, but his delivery of it just makes my skin crawl. I mean no offense, this is just me personally and I normally love period movies or time travel movies!!! Tori M.

359: Snow White & The Huntsman

Image
Say what you will about Kristen Stewart, but I think she does a great job in this movie and as Snow White. Even though this movie ruined her relationship and the director's with his family...you have to give props to how good of a movie it is. What bothers me watching this movie now that The Huntsman is out, is that they completely redid his story with his wife. You watch that and then this and you don't see the logic. Also, Ravena's brother. No mention of a sister in this and then no mention of a brother in the Huntsman. I like them both, but I love this one more. I have never really liked Snow White as a Princess, she just bugged me with her high voice and such. This is one Snow White that I actually do like. I know I mentioned this in Mirror, Mirror, but I like that Snow White, the Sigourney Weaver one, Once Upon A Time one, and this one. No damsel in distress Snow White in this movie. ;) Tori M.

358: Sleepover

Image
I remember when I saw this, I thought this was what High School was going to be like. There is kind of a fantasy of what High School is. A cool lunch spot, dances, guys...Yeah, that goes down the drain in reality. Either way, I do like this movie. It is a great teenager coming of age, learning responsibility....even though she said she snuck out of the house for a very good adult reason. Not so much. Lunch spots are not that important in real life when you are an adult. It's not supposed to be logical, it's supposed to be fun and entertaining and it is. Doing a scavenger hunt against he mean girls, getting out of your box. I am seeing a pattern in some of the movies I like and own. Tori M.

357: Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants

Image
This is going to be a very short one, I am trying so hard to catch up. So if I rush or there isn't much to read...that is why!!! It took me till two years or a year ago to see this movie. I have never read the books it is based off of, but you know...I actually like it. It is a nice feel good friend movie. Each friend embodies something so strongly that I think is in every part of us. A piece to our personal puzzle. Now some of us might veer closer to one character in particular, but I can relate to each one. Wouldn't it be amazing though to have a pair of jeans that fit you and all your other friends? Speaking for women here. Sorry guys. It might seem weird to have faith in a pair of jeans, but sometimes you just need a little in something that comes upon you when you need it most. Even if it comes in a weird way as fitting your friends, ha, ha. One day I will see the sequel, see where the pants takes them next and if they meet up with some of the same people they met

356: Singin' In The Rain

Image
I remember the first time I saw this movie was in my Theater class in High School. Sad, right? Well ever since I have loved it and probably quote Lina Lamont learning to say round tones with 'Can't' all the time. Every now and then the song, "Good Morning" will get in my head, just from simply saying it. This is such a classic, but I do have to say there is one part that I don't like and tune out whenever it gets there. It is when he is in the Manhattan Melodies and there is the dance with the woman in the long flowing scarf-dress thing. It is too long and I just think it is weirdly placed in there. Whatever, that is just me. Despite that, I do still love it and think I can say for everyone that Debbie Reynolds is a treasure that will forever be cherished and missed. Tori M.

355: Simply Irresistible

Image
Okay, so I know that Sarah Michelle-Gellar wished she had never done this movie, but honestly it is one of my favorites. It was my first introduction to her and it involved cooking. I was really big into watching Food Network growing up, wanting to be a chef when I was little. I wanted to be a great chef and this movie held that with such magic, that it appealed to me even more. When you cook or do anything creative, you put yourself into it. I know this with my painting that I do. Cooking, you can lose yourself in creating something amazing and new. It relaxes and it can be really fun. The one thing I wanted more than anything with this movie, was to reach through the screen and try the Crab Napoleon and she made or even those desserts! Oh man, those desserts looked amazing. Love story, magic, cooking...I think it is the perfect recipe and this movie should get the attention it deserves! Tori M.

354: Shutter Island

Image
I was behind on watching, now I am behind on posting! It is one way or the other, I was better at this at the beginning. Let's see, Shutter Island. I love me a good psychological thriller and a period piece. I also have grown to like more of Leonardo's movies, there is something about him that pulls you into his characters and stories he tells. Also, I mean Mark Ruffalo is in this and does a great job at being a supporting role. Now I have seen this movie maybe 3 times and each time I notice something different, wondering how I missed it the previous times. The one part that I hate that I didn't realize until this time around, was the ending. If you haven't seen this movie and do not want it to be spoiled, turn away NOW! What I didn't realize at the end, was that he was pretending to have reverted back to his state of mind. It was that last thing he said to his 'partner', that makes you kind of go...oh crap. He did all of this on purpose. You know, I

353: Shrek 2

Image
The first thing I have to say is that I would be in the same boat as Donkey. A land far, far away...I mean I love road trips, but I need music to get me by and they had none of that. Silence in a carriage. Donkey just had to find a way to entertain himself on the long journey. Also I won't even try and wrap my ahead around how a donkey and dragon can have babies. Like how does that physically work? One of those mysteries that you just have to put on the back burner when it comes to fairy tales or even animation, fantasy movies. Things just don't make sense and they don't have to all the time. I do really like the sequel, it is just as funny and you get the whole situation of meeting the parents. It's also funny finding out how Shrek handles being a human for a day and not feared, but sought after. Ha, ha. I never got into the movies that are after this, I can't go there with kids being added and all that other stuff. Not saying I don't like kids, but some

352: Shrek

"What are you doing in my swamp?!" First off, a little update. I am behind on movies, not writing posts for them, but just watching them. The reason that is is that I have been sick for 5 weeks and still not doing well. I had to go in and tell my work to let me go, thankfully they are very understanding and would've kept waiting for me to get better, but told me to come back when I am feeling better and know what is going on. Second, because of that I have little to no money and recently got into something that is helping my health, learning about it some more and intend on doing a blog about that and just what has been my life always being sick. I have also been painting, doing that to earn some money while I am able to be upright for an hour or so. I hope to crank out the rest of the S's and I mean there is only this month and next to get this movie goal done. Damn it, I am going to do it. Like the characters in this movie, I am determined to get to save my

351: She's the Man

Image
First thing is first, it has taken me quite some time to watch an Amanda Bynes movie again after her major melt down a couple or so years ago. It was hard to look at her the same after that and I do still miss that funny girl we all knew. Of course, I am beyond happy for her now and glad that she is happy and doing well. It is good to be able to watch her movies again, it has been so long and I have seen this one a billion times I swear. Just hilarious and kind of memorized a lot of the lines in it, as well as the music. Watching it again after years, it is still super funny and I love this movie. I will always love it, a new take on Shakespeare and I have always loved and understood Shakespeare. I do have to say that I am right up there with Viola on the whole debutante thing and wanting to prove girls are just as good as guys at sports. I don't know how those guys were able to be around her whenever she spoke or reacted as a man. I would have died with laughter, she is sup

350: Sherlock Holmes - Game of Shadows

Image
I know I said I love the first movie, but the second movie is 10x better and I didn't think it was possible to get better. Sherlock/Robert dressed as a woman telling Watson to lay with him just about proves it wrong, as well as other things. They are travelling outside of London, dancing with gypsies, running away from anarchist groups, firing massive advanced weaponry in Germany, throwing people off trains and waterfalls...I could go on and on. Never ending awesomeness, although not so awesome is the death of Sherlock's love and sometimes enemy. The famous Moriarty is introduced and I love who they chose. Of course when you watch both the first movie and this one right after the other, there is a huge difference between that Moriarty and this one. *shrugs* Whatever, it happens. I love the game of cat and mouse between Sherlock and Moriarty and the end game of chess. Knowing each others moves, knowing the chess board so well without having to look at it. Two amazing mind

349: Sherlock Holmes

Image
I couldn't think of a better Sherlock Holmes in the original time period, than Robert Downey Jr. I know that most would say they love Benedict better, but you know I have yet to see that show and that is why I have said it the way I did. In the original time period Sherlock Holmes is set in. Also the Sherlock vision they created in this movie is brilliant. It really gets you into how Sherlock sees everything and calculates the next move, logically by the opponent and himself. You also feel super bad for Watson, having to deal with blunt his partner is in the truth and just whenever he opens his mouth to speak. Even though they kind of have an older brother, younger brother squabble vibe, they really work well together and need each other to balance each other out. Remind each other of their strengths and weaknesses. Watson is moving on, moving out and getting engaged. Sherlock is kind of stuck in the same place he prefers to be in and excels in. Though you throw a past love
